Education Foundation, Communications and Community Relations Department

The goal of the North Forest Independent School District's Department of Education Foundation, Communications and Community Relations is to establish and maintain an effective, two-way communication program that adequately addresses the informational needs of both its internal and external publics, utilizing formal and informal communication programs and strategies.

Informal Strategies

The Key Communicators Network is comprised of some 200 residents who come in contact with a large number of people. KCs are mailed pertinent district information that they are asked to share with as many people as they come in contact with during the course of a day. They are also asked to call the public relations office if they or their friends and neighbors have questions or concerns about the district. The Business Partners Program provides both manpower and monetary support to enhance the district’s educational programs.

Formal Communication Strategies

The department produces and disseminates a number of publications designed to help keep the community informed about the district’s operations. Several of the publications have won state and national awards. School Zone is a monthly newsletter which highlights district news and teacher, staff and student achievements. Board Review is a monthly summary of actions of the board of trustees. A monthly district calendar informs the community about upcoming events campus and district-wide events. Greeting Cards are mailed to employees on behalf of the school board and the superintendent on their birthday, to extend congratulations on their accomplishments, to send get-well wishes, and to extend condolences upon the death of a member of their immediate family. North Forest uses Connect-ED, a phone messaging system designed and marketed as a tool to quickly disseminate personalized messages in emergency situations. The Connect-ED system provides North Forest with an expeditious, efficient and effective way to communicate with stakeholders. The communications office sends hundreds of press releases, PSAs and photographs to local newspapers and the electronic media. The office maintains a file of public press releases.

Other Education Foundation, Communications and Community Relations Functions

The department provides quality printing services to district offices and to the schools. North Forest ISD recognizes the right of the general public to full and complete information regarding the affairs of the district. The responsibility of the public relations office is to provide a method whereby appropriate information is available to all parties having a right and a need to such information in accordance with the Texas Open Records Law.
